Issue 16 - June 24, 2022

We are now into the busy season for Protective Coatings and things are already hectic. The last thing you need is to get that call from a past client asking why their floor coating is peeling up.

How did this happen? How will you fix it? When will you fix it? What will this cost you?

These thoughts all run through your head at the same time but there is nothing you can do until you go and inspect the floor and understand what you are dealing with. Most issues are small ones that are easily fixed so don't panic.

There is one piece of advice that we can offer applicators in this situation. Failures and mistakes happen and sometimes stuff just happens. In the end it's not about the failure, it's about how you rectify the situation that matters most to the end client. So get the issue fixed up as quickly as possible and your client will be happy.

The graph below can cover most protective coatings whether they be floor coatings or automotive coatings. Something went wrong and odds are it's on this chart and the bigger odds are that it is poor preparation which is why it's so important to do the proper preparation.

PowerDECK Decorative Coating for Pedestrian Wood Surfaces

As soon as the snow melted this spring, home-owners were "once again" looking at their wood decks and asking themselves "once again" why can't they find a coating that will actually last.

Well PowerCOAT has the answer and it is PowerDECK!

PowerDECK is a single component, moisture cure urethane that is pre-tinted gray or tan. It's a waterproof coating membrane that's applied at 30 mils thick (50 sq ft per gallon) and is designed to be applied to exterior grade plywood.

This can also just be a decorative coating that is applied at 15 mils thick (100 sq ft per gallon).

PowerDECK is designed to be top coated and it looks a lot better with a decorative chip blend broadcast into it giving it an attractive finish. The picture above is a blend called Obsidian. The process is to apply the base coat and then broadcast decorative flakes or quartz into it and then apply a clear urethane top coat.

Not only does this coating make your wood deck look fantastic it is also really easy to apply.

Rubber Pour in Place Paving is the hottest coating on the market right now and PowerCOAT is stocking the barrels of Aromatic Urethane Binder! In fact we have tons of them!

Some of our applicators are booked up with jobs for the entire summer already and there is a huge demand for more install teams.

Rubber Paving has been around for a number of years and is growing in popularity as more people realize that it is a much better option to coat your old driveway than it is to remove and replace the old concrete.

The benefits are numerous:

  • It costs less to coat your driveway than it is to replace it and can save thousands of dollars.
  • It is a good environmental option as you are using old truck tires.
  • It will last 20-25 years, new concrete can start cracking right away.
  • It is a much more attractive option than concrete as you can use colored rubber.
  • It is easy to care for and can be shovelled and snowblowed in winter.
  • It can be easily repaired if damaged.
  • Old concrete can be recycled but a lot of it ends up in landfills.
  • Concrete plants are huge CO2 emitters so the less concrete used the better.

And there are many more benefits! Below are some before and after pictures of a driveway that we recently trained some new applicators on.
