DeRUST™ Gel Rust Remover

DeRUST™ Gel is a water-based rust remover that lifts rust from steel, including rust bleed and cross-contamination on stainless steel and other materials. It is formulated for brush-on and spray-on application, clings to affected areas, and removes rust without stripping existing paint from painted metal.

After treatment, wipe, wash, or pressure wash the surface to reveal a clean, rust-free area ready for painting, fabrication, repair, or refurbishment. DeRUST™ Gel also removes patina from copper and brass.

How to Use DeRUST™ Gel

1. Pre-clean the surface to remove oil, grease, dirt, and other contaminants. DEEP CLEAN XTREME or another alkaline cleaner/degreaser may be used.
2. Remove loose or heavy rust scale with a stiff brush.
3. Apply a liberal, even coat of DeRUST™ Gel by synthetic brush or spray, ensuring complete coverage of the rusted area.
4. Leave the gel undisturbed while it works. Do not agitate the treated area.
5. After the required dwell time, wipe, wash, or pressure wash the surface clean.

Dwell Time, Coverage, and Protective Crust

Approximate brush-on coverage is 80 sq. ft. per 1 US gallon. Dwell time can range from 30 minutes to 24 hours and depends on the amount of rust scale and temperature. Warmer temperatures increase working speed and may reduce dwell time. Always complete a test patch to determine the right dwell time for the surface and level of rust.

When left for extended periods, DeRUST™ Gel hardens into a protective crust that can help protect the treated surface during transport or storage. Pressure washing is required to remove the hardened gel and expose the clean, rust-free surface. Refer to the individual Technical Data Sheet for detailed application and sprayer requirements.
